What is the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP)™?
The ASTD Certification Institute built the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP)™ credential to provide a way for workplace learning and performance professionals to prove their worth to employers and their peers and to be confident about their knowledge of the field. The ASTD (American Society for Training & Development) is the world’s largest association dedicated to workplace learning and performance professionals. Members work in thousands of organizations of all sizes, in government, as independent consultants, and suppliers. By earning your CPLP designation, you communicate to your employers that you are not only dedicated to continuing your education but also validate your expertise in learning and performance.
CPLP designation showcases the workplace learning professional’s knowledge and performance in the nine areas of expertise as defined by the ASTD Competency Model. Participants in the program will not only be confident and prepared for the CPLP Certification exam, but they will also network with other workplace learning and performance professionals, gain professional development through interactive discussions and exercises and provide a quality learning and performance system to your organization.
Those eligible for the CPLP certification are professionals in the learning and performance field and have a minimum of three years of related work experience, although five years of related work experience is preferred.
What is the ASTD Competency Model?
After extensive research, ASTD developed its latest competency model, which defines the clusters of skills, knowledge, abilities, and behaviors required for success across all workplace learning and performance jobs.
The ASTD Competency Model, which is shaped like a pyramid, has three tiers: Foundational Competencies, Areas of Expertise (AOEs), and WLP Roles. The CPLP body of knowledge is based primarily on the nine AOEs that are located in the middle tier of the model.
The AOEs are the specific technical and professional knowledge and skills required for success in the field.
What are the Foundational Competencies and WLP Roles?
The ASTD Competency Model presented the idea of foundational competencies. These foundational competencies are categorized as follows:
