Topic: Workforce Readiness – Ensuring and Securing the Skills We Need
Facilitator: Kathryn (Kathy) Davanzo, M.Ed, SPHR
The Hudson Institute has reported that in the 21st century: 60% of all jobs will require skills that only 20% of the current workforce has. The US Chamber of Commerce found that 75% of today’s workforce needs to be retrained to keep their current job. A June 2005 SHRM Survey – The Future of the US Labor Pool found that 62% of HR professionals say that most or some workers lack the skills needed for today’s workforce.
As the HR Florida Workforce Readiness Chair in 2005, 2006 and again in 2008, Kathy W. Davanzo, SPHR recognizes that the workforce readiness issue is broad and complex. Human Resources and learning professionals understand that preparing a ready workforce is not just education’s task, the government’ role, a parent’s duty, or the applicant’s responsibility. It is also a task, role, duty, and responsibility of company leadership who must recognize and participate in the resolution of issues that may prevent us, and in some parts of our state and in some fields are already preventing us, from having a world class workforce.
In this presentation Kathy will share information and resources human resources and learning professionals can use to define the problem and create the solutions for their organizations, and which can be used to demonstrate to their company leadership the cost of doing something and the cost of doing nothing.
