By Shannon Spring of Just Humor Me

Please mark your calendars and join us for the Suncoast ASTD-Sarasota Geographic Interest Group (GIG) Meeting on June 4, 2013 at 6 pm.

Shannon Spring, the founder of Just Humor MeÔ, decided after several years of teaching that she should either choose a life of comedy or a life of crime; Shannon has chosen the “crime” of leading a life of comedy!  Her one of a kind, creative programs and games have engaged, amused, and inspired participants throughout the country.  She incorporates improv comedy techniques when teaching Communication Skills, Stress Management, and Personal & Professional Development presentations.

Humor is a powerful, yet underutilized business tool… and laughter is the Holy Grail when it comes to happiness, health, and success.   Shannon will teach us in her session, Out-Fun Your Competition, how you can tap into your own sense of humor and creativity to boost confidence, morale, and rapport, so that you can run more productive meetings, attract new customers, and meet other business needs.  Come and learn how to develop a fun-inspired approach to your business by learning techniques to help you think fast on your feet, use your right brain, and use humor to manage stress and improve communication.  Raise your HQ (Humor Quotient) and you’ll find out that fun is serious business!

    • ASTD Suncoast Welcomes Brian Pope to Century Buick Located in Tampa on Hillsborough TOPIC: Leadership

    Financial Wellness in the Workplace

    Learn how:

Financial wellness for your employees effects the health of your organization

The 2008 financial crisis and the great recession exposed Americans' flawed
understanding of personal finance and the concepts of budgeting, debt
reduction and managing loans. While many companies believe the subject
should be taught to their employees, the fact is that many don't have the
expertise or comfort level to provide a balanced educational program.

For years, business and human resource leaders have provided their employees
with wellness programs focusing on health. But research shows that an
employee who is financially stable - and not worried about their family's
money - is a happier, more productive employee.

    Speaker Bio:

Brian Pope, president of Pope Financial Planning, has been a pioneer in the
area of designing corporate financial wellness programs tailored to the
company's unique needs. Holding a Master's Degree from the University of
Georgia, Pope is the lead Dave Ramsey Certified Coach® in Tampa Bay. Over
the years, he's helped clients craft financial plans for the first time,
learn how to manage money, avoid bankruptcy, pay off debt and build wealth.

What is the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP)™?

The ASTD Certification Institute built the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP)™ credential to provide a way for workplace learning and performance professionals to prove their worth to employers and their peers and to be confident about their knowledge of the field. The ASTD (American Society for Training & Development) is the world’s largest association dedicated to workplace learning and performance professionals. Members work in thousands of organizations of all sizes, in government, as independent consultants, and suppliers. By earning your CPLP designation, you communicate to your employers that you are not only dedicated to continuing your education but also validate your expertise in learning and performance.

CPLP designation showcases the workplace learning professional’s knowledge and performance in the ten areas of expertise as defined by the ASTD Competency Model. Participants in the program will not only be confident and prepared for the CPLP Certification exam, but they will also network with other workplace learning and performance professionals, gain professional development through interactive discussions and exercises and provide a quality learning and performance system to your organization.

Those eligible for the CPLP certification are professionals in the learning and performance field and have a minimum of three years of related work experience, although five years of related work experience is preferred.

    What is the Work Product?

    Components

For the work product submission, candidates will need to complete three different components:

    • Project Work (Work Product) and Project Essays – Candidates provide a sample of their project work and answer eight related essay questions which enable them to provide rationale and documentation to support their project sample.
    • Challenge Questions – Candidates respond to two challenge essay questions that are completely independent of their project work. One question is strategic in nature; the other is operational or tactical in its focus.
    • Standard Forms – Candidates complete a number of other forms such as a contact information form and release and permission forms designed to protect all parties legally.

    CPLP Q&A

•· Dr. Richard Sites, co-author of Leaving ADDIE for SAM and Angel Green, Senior Instructional Strategist at Allen Interactions Present An interactive discussion about why the l/d profession is Leaving Addie for SAm

Analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) are all important steps in the design of effective e-learning applications or any learning program. While there have been many adaptations of ADDIE, many of them were made before we had today's tools, challenges, and opportunities. As is being realized by the software industry with Agile, more radical process changes are now both needed and possible. Meet SAM (Successive Approximation Model). The benefits: More efficient and effective processes and superior learning experiences in less time.

The traditional instructional design process, ADDIE, is past its prime. It was developed long before Agile and other iterative processes that have introduced greater efficiencies in design and development, fostered more creativitity, and addressed effective stakeholder involvement. Leaving ADDIE for SAM introduces two new concepts, SAM (the Successive Approximation Model) and the Savvy Start. Together, they incorporate contemporary design and development processes that reduce the complexity of instructional design and development, yielding more energetic and effective learning experiences.

In this session, Dr. Richard Sites, co-author of Leaving ADDIE for SAM and Angel Green, Senior Instructional Strategist at Allen Interactions addresses the power of an iterative instructional design process, how product and process are tightly linked, and the basic challenges that face the modern day instructional designer. With key insights from their years of experience building and designing technology-based instructional products, Richard and Angel discuss key strategies to overcome design and project hurdles through an iterative process.

    CLARA ROSE of

PRESENTS: Closing the Communication Gaps; Understanding our Differences

There is a serious new problem in the workplace and it has nothing to do with downsizing, corruption or global competition. Instead it is a problem created by distinct generations in the workforce.

We are experiencing a time in American history were we have four very different generations working side-by-side.

    Veterans

    Baby Boomers

    Generation X

    Generation Y

Individuals with different values, different ideas, different ways of getting things done and different ways of communicating are now occupying the same space.

The was a time when the boss was older, more experienced and mature. Younger workers did what was asked of them, no questions asked. There were definite social rules about how the boss was treated as well as social norms about how the younger workers treated older workers.

Times have changed, with the roles and the rules being rewritten often. Cultural and ethnic differences also play a larger role than ever before. Different abilities and disabilities surround us all in the workplace.

Discussion topics of this workshop take a look at those differences, to help create a better understanding of how to effectively work together.

"Education is the first step toward creating a culture of understanding and sensitivity in the work place".
